WHAT TO DO

Palazzo Barbini: A timeless haven of elegance

HISTORY

Hidden among the solid walls of residences dating back to 1450, Palazzo Barbini embodies the splendor of the Middle Ages, seamlessly intertwined with the Renaissance-inspired renovations of the early 1500s. The tangible signs of this integration persist among the stones and bricks, serving as a magnificent metaphor for the convergence of two crucial and now distant eras.

Exploring the late 1700s, these rooms became the homes of Count Tommaso Fieri-Fierli di Cortona, who was granted the royal right to enjoy the feudal assets of Petrignano, a picturesque location nearby, directly from Pope Clement XIV. The history unfolds through the halls, painting a narrative enriched with heritage and prestige. In the early 1900s, the entire building came under the ownership of the Barbini family, a legacy that has been maintained to this day.

Under the guidance of Domenico Barbini, the palace became a center for the import and commercialization of various goods, brought in by dedicated freight trains. From coal supplies to household furnishings and even the pioneering introduction of combine harvesters that changed the work of farmers around Lake Trasimeno, the palace became a beacon of innovation and progress.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

In 2005, the eclectic descendant, Mario Barbini, orchestrated a metamorphosis, unveiling finely furnished suite apartments for the public within the palace. Enveloped in an aura of tailor-made sophistication, some suites boast panoramic terraces with views of the lake.

Guests of the palace are granted access to the swimming pool of the country residence, now called "Casale Baldelli," just 2.5 km along the wine road, offering a tranquil retreat immersed in the lush Umbrian-Tuscan countryside, just a stone's throw from the Tuscan border.

Majestically positioned in front of the main church of the village, Palazzo Barbini stands as a timeless bastion of grace and refinement. Its seven finely furnished suites, adorned with original handmade furniture, offer a tailor-made experience, blending opulence with authenticity. The central location of the palace provides an entrance to the tranquil rhythms of life in Castiglione del Lago, while giving guests the serenity necessary to be enveloped by the charm of these villages.
